Rio Seco Lodge is located near the village of Las Lajitas, in the
Province of Salta, and about three hours from the airport.
The lodge serves over 20km of the Dorado River, which flows
through the warm rainforests, forming big pools and riffles where
the fighting Dorado, the tiger of the rivers, is found.
A real adventure trip, the river is reached by horse along paths
through the wonderful rainforest or by 4-wheel-drive vehicle.
It is not unusual to come across toucans flying up, thousands of
butterflies of different sizes and exotic colors, footprints of
tapirs and pumas, corzuelas, mountain pigs, ducks and even
anteaters!
THE FISHING:
Fishing season starts in April and runs through November.
The rainy climate makes fishing almost impossible in summer
because the heavy rainfall produces rapid runoff and turns the
waters muddy. It can also complicate road travel. The
most interesting thing about dorado fishing here is that fishing
is done by wading crystal clear waters, almost impossible
in other destinations. Moreover, the Dorados are hard
fighting, wild jumping, and brilliantly colored. The average
size in the area has held between 4 and 8 pounds, even though
larger fish are also caught. Fishing is usually done
with floating lines and traditional dorado flies. In some
sections, sinking line may be used. Black-and-orange and
white-and-yellow flies have proved to be the most effective. |

ACCOMMODATIONS AND CAPACITY:
The lodge is a traditional ranch
of Salta, with a picturesque and country style. There is no
electricity (only a solar cell system), so all the activity at

Meals are usually prepared on the grill or the disco, where
the anglers get together to have a drink and share the
experiences of the day. The lodge offers two exclusive
double-occupancy rooms with private baths (one has a
fireplace), sitting room with a fireplace and comfortable
sofas, bar service, fly-tying table, a slated-roof gallery
with rocking chairs and hammocks.
