Blarney Lodge

With a slightly Irish theme and the ambiance of yesteryear, hosts Pat and Helen O’Keefe welcome you to Blarney Lodge.  Situated on the shores of Lake Rerewhakaaitu it is uniquely the only lakeside property and so ensures absolute privacy for guests.  The guest wing of the Lodge has been designed for your comfort and privacy.  Each room is tastefully dressed with quality furnishings and private facilities and offer discerning, luxury accommodation with Kiwi hospitality.  Guests are welcome to swim, fish and walk the lake at their leisure.  The lodge can accommodate 6 guests, in three double rooms.

Rotorua and Taupo are a short drive away for retail therapy, or there are many opportunities to explore the local vicinity with farm visits by arrangement. There are therapeutic hot pools to experience, a picturesque country golf course for the links enthusiast or a myriad of tourist attractions within a short drive.

Pat O'Keefe offers anglers his expertise from a lifetime of fly fishing and owner of a specialist fishing tackle store for 15 years.  He has represented New Zealand at the World Fly Fishing Championships for 6 of those years and has fished both the North and South Islands of New Zealand.  He always delights in sharing his experiences.  Fly tying and creating new patterns has always been his specialty and a fly tying den has been specifically designed for this purpose.  Fly tiers can experiment, share patterns and have tuition in the art.

THE FISHING:  The waters allow for a full range of styles and techniques from fishing the evening rise to stalking wily browns.

The season opens on 1st October. Over the October - December period, nymphing is the most productive technique.  However, with weather conditions permitting, anglers can expect dry fly during the warmer part of the day. January to April is the most prolific period for dry fly.  During the winter months of May - August, there is exceptional fishing, which is heightened as the main spawning run starts. It is the opportune time to target trophy rainbows and the occasional large brown.

Within an hour's drive of the lodge there is access to 16 lakes and several spring creeks and rivers.  Because of the diversity of the Rotorua region's trout waters and the vast fishery it offers, you have the unique opportunity to fish a variety of techniques in some of the best trout water in the world.
