Belize River Lodge Travel Adventures' Ratings

Tarpon!  Permit!  Bonefish!  Snook!  If your interest lies in one of these fish, or in all 4;  then Belize River Lodge is the place for you!

Belize River Lodge is the one of the most respected fishing lodges in Belize and is considered a first class fishing destination in Central America and the Caribbean.  The Lodge rests peacefully on the banks of the Belize Olde River amidst a lush tropical setting.  Balmy breezes, rich with bird singing, drift among the private cottages.  While at the Lodge, relax and enjoy Belizean hospitality and fine Belizean-Creole-American cuisine.

The Lodge is conveniently located only 10 minutes from the Belize International Airport and approximately four miles from the mouth of the river and the Caribbean Sea and yet it is close to a diverse fishing ground to offer the enthusiastic angler.   Within a week of fishing, pole across many nearby flats looking for Permit and Bonefish, scout the mangroves and channels for Tarpon and Snook, visit a few of the rivers and lagoons where baby Tarpon and Snook abound, or fish the Barrier Reef for Jacks and Barracuda.

For those who want to fish when the fishing is hot and nap when the weather is hot, try one of the Belize River Lodge fishing cruises.  You can fish Belize and stay in luxury aboard the M.V. Cristina, a 58' Hatteras, or for a great deal, you can board the M.V. Blue Yonder, a 52' Chris Craft.   Both live-aboards are manned by the captain/guide, mate/guide and chef, and are outfitted with a private, fresh water shower, air conditioned, private sleeping quarters and galley.  This is a truly versatile way to fish a wide area.

While fishing from the Belize River Lodge, a variety of wildlife can be encountered: howler monkeys, iguanas, turtles, parrots, various birds, and an occasional crocodile can be seen.  The Belize Barrier Reef is a short skiff run from most of the Flats, so you can always take a break, snorkel, and cool off.  While snorkeling, catch a glimpse of the many reef fish, and sometimes a spiny lobster or even a manatee.  Because the lodge is located on the mainland, Belize River Lodge offers daily eco-tours to Maya sites, birding tours and jungle hikes.

THE FISHING:  Fishing is from 23' fiberglass Panga skiffs, usually two anglers to a skiff with an experienced professional guide. The flats, cayes, reef, mangrove channels, Belize River, Sibun River, Manatee River, Black Creek, and several other creeks and lagoons in between are the areas fished from the Lodge in a normal five day fishing package. Tell your guide what your desires for the day are, and he will try to fulfill your every request. All of the Lodge guides are local Belizeans, who know the waters; and are friendly, talented, hard working, patient, and very capable of instructing.

Below are generalities that are found at Belize River Lodge.  The sizes listed are most common, however, smaller and bigger fish can always be seen and sometimes caught.  The months listed are when these fish are most commonly seen or fished for.  Fishing is on the Flats when the weather allows and the rivers the rest of the time.  The best time for a fishing trip is when you make the time to go fishing!
