Spain - Spanish Pyrenees

Fly Fishing Trip or Lodge Details:

Dry fly fishing for wild trout in rivers and lakes set in a wild and unspoiled landscape define fishing in the Spanish Pyrenees environment. You are invited to fish in these privileged conditions in one of the best fly fishing destinations for salmonids in Europe. These rivers and the habits of the trout are a real paradise for lovers of the dry fly: in every beat, pool or lake you can find different challenges for this type of fishing which offers the best results with respect to other techniques. Fly fishing in the Pyrenees is for those looking for something different; the day is spent without even seeing another angler and is surrounded by a wild and unspoiled countryside.

The best way to live a ten day adventure is The Ultimate Fly Fishing Pyrenees Tour, a very interesting itinerary along the entire Pyrenees Mountains.

THE FISHING: The original native trout present in these waters for thousands of years, is the Brown Trout. There are brown trout in the mid and lower reaches between 25 and 30 inches in 8 different rivers in the area. To catch these fish you have to look for them in special areas of each river and be very patient! However, it is more realistic to talk about the average size fish in a typical dry fly fishing program from June to August: At the source of the rivers, 8-14 inches; in the mid and lower reaches of rivers, 10-16 inches; in selected high mountain lakes, 16-22 inches. And hidden at the source of some of the rivers is a perfect habitat for Brook Trout. Catch many “brookies” each day up to 14 inches on some of the small, high mountain rivers. During the season, the number of fish caught by an average angler is always more than 5 fish per day. It is very usual to catch more than 15 and it is not uncommon to catch more than 30 in some of the high mountain rivers.

THE LODGE: Set in a rural and tranquil atmosphere, next to the bell tower of the Church of Santa Cilia, the lodge, once an ancient 15th century palace belonging to the monks of the Monastery of San Juan de la Peña, has been converted into a first class fishing lodge. All the bedrooms have been rebuilt while keeping their rustic style. Every room has an en-suite bathroom and good views overlooking the river. Five rooms and limited to 10 anglers/guests.
