River Birches offers boutique New Zealand lodge accommodationin Turangi, on the southern edge of Lake Taupo. The lodge provides quiet seclusion and understated luxury accommodation at affordable prices.

The Lodge is centrally located on the North Island, close to the renowned Tongariro Crossing and only footsteps away from the world famous fly fishing on the Tongariro River. The three-room luxury lodge is situated within an established garden and only a fly fisher's throw from one of the river's most famous pools. Other natural attractions like Tongariro National Park and Mount Ruapehu are nearby.

In New Zealand, trout fishing access to rivers is freely available, and large fish are caught regularly. River Birches Lodge is located just metres from the world-renowned Tongariro River.  A short walk away, one of the river’s most famous pools – the Major Jones – awaits the early morning angler. Pools fished by Zane Grey and the Duke and Duchess of York are accessible by walking tracks, or a short drive. Beyond the Tongariro lie many more rivers that have made trout fishing in the Taupo region rightly famous, both in New Zealand and around the world.

Local New Zealand fishing guides can lead you to the best spots. The lodge can organise a fishing guide to suit your preferred type of fishing, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced angler. Alternatively, you can make your own arrangements through the New Zealand Professional Fishing Guides Association.

River Birches has fly fishing equipment available, including quality rods, breathable waders and fishing vests.

Rate Information

RATES: Effective until April 2012 - NZ$460-995 per room/accommodation for 2-6 guests, per day, including GST.

INCLUSIONS: Accommodations and a cooked breakfast is included in the tariff. If you prefer something a little lighter, try the continental breakfast of homemade cereals and preserves, fresh seasonal fruits and yoghurt. Dinner and lunch are available by advance request, or try one of many local restaurants nearby.

Plus the use of all all lodge facilities, including the use of loan fly fishing equipment, waders, and boots. Rates include GST.

EXCLUSIONS: License, helicopter flights, alcohol, gratuities, telephone calls, items of a personal nature, etc.

General Information

LOCATION: Turangi; 4 hour drive from Auckland, 4.5 hour drive fom Wellington.

HOW TO GET THERE: International flights to Auckland (AKL), Christchurch (CHC) or Wellington (WLG) followed by a domestic flight to Taupo (TUO). Then rental car to the Lodge or by arranged shuttle.
